In addition to the familiar rubies, jadeite, diamonds and coloured diamonds, which are a must for collectors and investors, in recent years there have been a number of "dark horses" that have shone exceptionally brightly in the gemstone world, and their value has continued to rise.
1. Turquoise
Turquoise is the only jade named after a stone, and was one of the first stones to be used by man. Although rich in colour and variegated, for thousands of years turquoise has existed silently as an accessory to other jewellery, either set in boxes or on swords ...... It is only in the last 5 years that turquoise has suddenly become the "red man" in the jade collection field It is only in the last five years that turquoise has suddenly become a "celebrity" in jade collecting, with prices rising thirty or forty times in just five years.
Before the 1980s and 1990s, turquoise in China had always been a "flowering inside the walls", and a large part of the turquoise mined was used for export to generate foreign exchange, with many good items being sold abroad and a very small percentage actually sold in circulation at home.
As late as 2005, we found that the price of turquoise was so cheap that a large number of local farmers in Hubei went to the mountains to dig for turquoise, and the raw materials were sold abroad at low prices. We felt very distressed that such a good jade resource in China could not be sold at such a low price, so we made a proposal to the local government. It was not until 2009 that the local government made up its mind and suspended mining. The price of turquoise has gone up since then. In just the last five years, the price of turquoise has risen thirty to forty times. Due to the dwindling ore resources and the influence of the jade collecting craze, turquoise, which had been slow to rise in price, has seen a very pleasing increase in the last five years.
In the international market, the top blue porcelain pine is several times more expensive than gold, prompting many collectors to turn their attention to this beautiful gemstone.
Reasons for appreciation: scarce resources and high demand
2. Beeswax
Recently, the price of beeswax has soared, with the price of old beeswax soaring nearly tenfold in three years, surpassing that of diamonds, prompting many collectors to rush to buy it. Beeswax is a non-renewable resource, derived from a number of resins that have become extinct on the earth and require millions or even hundreds of millions of years underground to form. Experts believe that the increase in wholesale prices of origin and the increase in collectors has led to a surge in the price of beeswax.
Recently, the beeswax market has been exceptionally hot, and although prices vary greatly according to size and grade, the price of both low-grade and high-grade beeswax is now rising and has become a popular "newcomer" to the collection. An ordinary beeswax Buddha carving weighing 18.4 grams, which retailed for just over $500 three years ago, has now been sold for $6,900, while an old beeswax necklace is now selling for $490,000.
Reasons for appreciation: scarce resources and high demand
3. Tourmaline
Some may say that the price of tourmaline has long since risen. Yes, as its value has multiplied in recent years, so has the reputation of tourmaline. Where once high quality tourmalines were measured in grams, they are now priced by the carat, as are diamonds. Today, the price of tourmaline is still rising steadily at a rate of 15%, with prices for the finest tourmalines rising by up to 30%, thus showing that there is plenty of room for tourmaline to appreciate as an investment collection.
Reasons for appreciation: high demand and scarce resources
4. South Red Agate
South red is known as South red agate, now casually in the jewellery market to copy up a string of South red string, do not have to be too good colour, but also easily several thousand dollars. South red agate in recent years is in high speed price, the market continues to go up. Nowadays, the finished product, the folk products have risen to several thousand to several tens of thousands of yuan a piece, and masterpieces require tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of yuan to obtain one. At present the market is basically for gemstone material from Baoshan in Yunnan and Liangshan in Sichuan, with the better coloured old agates being in high demand.
Reasons for appreciation: scarcity of production and limited origin
5. Tanzanite
This blue stone, produced only in Tanzania at the foot of Kilimanjaro, a small area of 20 square kilometres, has seen its domestic price increase by 50% per year in the last year or two. In the West, Tanzanite has long been among the top jewels, with the finest Tanzanite blue being deep and rich, velvety and velvety, with a colour to rival that of royal sapphires. The beautiful brilliant blue colour of tanzanite is precisely the colour found in the finest sapphires and, in addition, tanzanite has a higher clarity than sapphires.
Reason for appreciation: unique origin, scarce resources
6. Sukuri
This name may be unfamiliar to many people, but it is a new type of ore discovered by a Japanese geologist in the 1960s and is currently only available from China, South Africa, Japan, Canada and the United States. The United States is the largest exporter, and prices have only risen in the last two years due to restrictions on exports from South Africa. This is a rare species of gemstone, also known as a South African national treasure. It has a variety of opaque shades of purple and fuchsia, sometimes as deep as black, and its colour tends to deepen in brilliance with prolonged wear.
Reasons for appreciation: colour variation, market demand
7. Opal
Australia's "national treasure", 90% of the opal on the market comes from Australia, the production is very small, so it does not support the market large-scale speculation, only a little appreciation. But as the number of opals entering the market increases year by year, everyone's awareness of it has also increased, ten years ago, 50 carats of high quality opal raw stone selling price is 300,000 yuan, and today the price is about 1.5 million. Opal is rising at around 20% per year. Growth is healthy and stable.
Reasons for appreciation: very small production and variety of colours
8. Spinel
"A natural beauty that is hard to give up, but will eventually become famous. It is harder than tourmaline and has a wide range of colours. It is so similar to ruby that it has even been mistaken for it by royalty, princes and lords since ancient times and set in their crowns. Red spinel is also increasingly popular with jewellery brands and consumers because of its clean, less-cracked nature.
Reasons for appreciation: extreme colour, market gap
9. Lapis Lazuli
Both lapis lazuli jewellery and raw stones have risen in price from two years ago. A lapis lazuli string that sold for 100 yuan two years ago now fetches 300 yuan: a lapis lazuli ornament that originally sold for around 1,000 yuan now rises to 10,000 yuan. In just two years, the price of lapis lazuli has doubled several times. Lapis lazuli is a scarce ore, and there are currently no ore belts of this ore found in China, so its price is higher than other similar ores.
Reasons for appreciation: shortage of resources and market demand
10. tsavorite
Although tsavorite has been discovered only a few decades ago, it has been traded at prices close to those of fine gemstones. It has the "three highs" that are the envy of many coloured stones: high brilliance, high purity and high saturation of colour. In 2008, Sotheby's sold a 10.30 carat tsavorite ring for HK$800,000, and in May 2009 a pear-shaped tsavorite pendant was sold for CHF 170,500. Shaverlite is one of the "potential" coloured gemstones.
Reasons for appreciation: the ultimate in colour, the new gemstone
